Welcome to the Clare Family Learning Project
Clare Family Learning Project started in Clare fourteen years ago when some parents attending literacy classes asked how they could help their children learn.
This interest was developed and nurtured by the Clare Adult Basic Education Service. As courses were piloted, research carried out and resources published, the Clare Family Learning Project became nationally renowned for its programmes, training and materials.
The project recognises that family learning is based on the principle that awareness of opportunities for learning in everyday home and community activities raises confidence and contributes to literacy and numeracy development across generations.

Courses help parents, carers, grandparents:
- recognise they are their children's first and most important educators
- realise the value of their home as a learning place
- support their children's learning
- make links between home and school
- build confidence to develop their own literacy and numeracy skills
- foster the notion of life-long learning
The programmes are supported by the Adult Education Board of the Co Clare VEC and the Clare Reading and Writing Scheme. Funded by the Department of Education and Science with assistance from the European Social Fund as pat of the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
